Reed for Kohl's Review

Ever since glimpsing the REED for Kohl's lookbook, I've been looking forward to seeing the apparel and handbags in person. The sporty silhouettes, bold graphics, and chic satchels appeared like they'd easily integrate into my casual wardrobe. This is the time of year that I'm incorporating vivid, summery prints and brighter colors into my looks, and some of those satchels were calling my name.

March 18, 2017 update - Shop new arrivals:

Although the REED merchandise is advertised as arriving in stores April 21, my store featured the REED collection front and center. I arrived on a quiet Monday afternoon to see the goods neatly displayed and color coordinated.

Here's a look at the REED for Kohl's clothing, which is punctuated by bold blues, colorblocking, and modern prints.

The Bags

Some of the bags were in the front of the store, and more were located in the handbag department. This was a bit tricky, since I did not initially see one of the displays. I'd prefer it all to be in one area. The REED bags are similar in style to the Reed Krakoff bags: the RK40, Atlantique, and Boxer, except that they're not leather and price points are under $130. The Atlantique satchel is one of my favorites. It has a removable zip pouch in the front pocket, which is a nice touch. The zippers felt well made, and there are plenty of interior and exterior pockets, which makes me happy since I rely upon pockets to stay organized. I did notice an unpleasant faux leather smell to some of the bags, which might bother some people. They did feel and look sturdy with nice stitching details. I love the bag charms and key fobs in this collection, as they allow you to really personalize your bag and have fun with color.

Below are the Atantique satchels in the medium size. Blue and blue floral styles, be mine!

I don't wear much yellow, but this RK40 bag below screams "cheerful and fun". I'd wear it with a floral dress, or as a bright accent with an all-white ensemble. The structured silhouette and belted detail reminds me of Hermès or Saint Laurent.

The RK40 abstract tote felt sturdy and thick, with zip and patch pockets inside and a snap closure. It's a great bag for the weekend or the beach.

The Atlantique mini satchel in perforated white is a top pick for me. I love all the exterior pockets, the sporty texture, and compact size.

The Clothes

In the Fitting Room

For reference, I wear XS or 0/2 in Womens' apparel at Kohl's. I'm petite and about 102 lbs.

The geometric scuba sheath dress is well tailored and of medium weight. I'm wearing a size 0. It's true to size and has a sturdy back zip. I did not love the white panel across my mid-section, as that can be unflattering since it highlights that area. The colorblock shift dress in the middle was lightweight and really comfy. I'm wearing XS. It has an easy, oversized fit and a vented hemline which was slightly longer in the back. I love the print, but not the unflattering sleeve length. The belt was a thin ribbon which was too flimsy for the dress. I was pleasantly surprised by the simple chambray shirtdress on the right. This is size XS, and it was roomy. The contrasting collar and chest pockets make it extra special. I did notice a few loose threads on the placket. It also has a thin ribbon tie belt which I'd replace with something thicker. The hem is vented and slightly longer on the back, which might require extra effort to replicate if I were to hem it myself (#shortgirlproblems).

The colorblock romper was a surprise hit. I'm wearing a size 2, and it was snug in the waist but otherwise true to size. It has pleats on the thigh which make it look tailored and dressy. I love the front pockets, and the back zip was great quality. It's versatile, easy to wear, and looks great with all the bags in the collection. The striped watercolor shirt (in XS) is slightly sheer, lightweight, and true to size. I'm wearing it with the button front chambray skirt in size 0. It's true to size. Unfortunately, it had a defective side zipper which was completely broken. Total thumbs down on this skirt. I found the side pockets to be unflattering due to their placement on the side seams. This caused puckering, which if you have curvy hips like me, can be unflattering. Like the dresses, it also has a thin ribbon tie belt.

The graphic tees are knit and woven mixed material construction (knit in back, woven chiffon in front). I'm wearing XS and they are true to size with an easy fit and vented hemlines. They're lightweight and the artsy prints give them a modern look.

April 20, 2016 update - I went back to try on more items. An employee informed me that this was the soft launch and that the store would be putting out more REED merchandise for the April 21st launch.

The graphic print tee fits like the ones above (vented hem, mixed knit/woven). I'm wearing it in XS untucked and tucked with the gingham capri pants in size 0. The pants are true to size. Unfortunately, the pockets didn't lay flat on my hips, but they had a mid rise and were well tailored with good quality cotton and some spandex. I'd like to see these pants in a floral print.

Below on the left and right is the scuba sheath dress in XS. The one on the left has the same print on the back, while the one on the right has a solid black back. It's medium weight scuba with a sturdy center back zip. The one on the left was slightly tighter than the one on the right, although both were the same size. I like the striped one better, but the length was too long for me.

The floral fit and flare scuba dress is a favorite of mine. I'm wearing XS and it was loose under the arms and in the waist. I'd size down on this, add a belt, and hem a few inches to fit me better. It was well made with a quality back zipper. The eyelet shirtdress was roomy with another thin ribbon belt I didn't care for. There's a lightweight cotton slip lining, vented hem, and like others in this collection, the dress is slightly longer in back. I'd wear this REED satchel in blue with both of theses dresses.

A quick look at how I'm wearing the REED graphic tee in "shore blooms blue" with the Atlantique convertible mini satchel. I love all the exterior pockets in this tote, the removable coin purse in the outer pocket, and the zipper closure on top.
