The Floral Denim D.I.Y.

Summer was always a time for creative projects in my childhood, and the tradition continues into my adulthood, as I've been on a denim D.I.Y. spree for the past two weeks. If you follow me on Pinterest, then you may have seen my recent D.I.Y. inspirations.  The end result of my latest projects is a pile of customized denim and a newfound sense of accomplishment.  There is nothing quite like the feeling of creating something with your own hands.

It all began with a stack of thrifted Levi's, and from there, it evolved into an obsession with D.I.Y. floral print jeans. So what did I use? Well I took some old flower templates (the likes of which can be found at Michael's) from my days as a fashion student and went to work coloring some inexpensive white jeans with a box of Crayola fabric markers.

Tips: the higher the cotton content and the lighter the fabric, the better the results.  I went with a somewhat random application using five different flower designs and four colors. For a faster application, fabric paint and brushes/sponges can be used instead of markers. I used my iron to heat set the design when finished, and I plan on dry cleaning in my dryer to prevent any color transfer.

Three episodes of Real Housewives later, I had myself some new jeans to pair with the chambray top and Dany heels that I'm living in this week.

This is so awesome! And so easy!! Who knew stencils were the key to cool floral jeans. :) I might have to try this if I can find another pair of white jeans I don't mind altering. You look fantastic and I love the Dany's! <3
