Marni at H&M Review & Giveaway (Closed)

Call me crazy, I am guilty as charged of being a Marni fan and a designer collaboration enthusiast. After admiring Consuelo Castiglioni's offbeat prints and quirky jewelry for the past decade, I sacrificed sleep and comfort to brave the Marni at H&M launch early Thursday morning in Los Angeles. After trying on a few pieces, my overall thoughts on the construction and quality of the line are positive.

Marni at H&M clothing

Marni at H&M African print

Marni at H&M accessories, Marni at H&M black heels

Marni at H&M tote bag, Marni at H&M silver heels

As part of the first shopper group at 8:05 am, I was able to get my hands on the sunglasses, jewelry and sequin collars that I wanted, as well as the tees and blue dotted jacket. After trying on the trousers (the gold brocade and black dotted versions), I found them to be loose and slouchy, and slightly itchy, although with quality construction and hefty fabrics. I imagine the silk trousers were more comfortable, and I'd go a size down on these. The two printed T-shirts were less sheer and much thicker than in previous H&M collections, and the black ribbed trim gave the flower tee sporty look. The chunky plastic bracelets were of solid fabrication and will look right at home layered with some of my statement rings.

While shopping, I noticed that the silk pajama top worn by Rumi was one of the first items to be cleared from the racks, and the color block dress, black heels, shiny black zip jacket, and sequin collars were popular as well. Demand for the tote bags and silver sandals didn't seem as high though.

We were limited to two of each item, and to enforce this rule, employees checked our shopping bags prior to leaving the shopping area.  I left the area well before my 15 minutes were up, and an employee barked, "straight to the checkout!" More like straight to the fitting rooms, where I tried some things on.

Marni at H&M black dot jacket

The black dotted jacket (for $79.95) runs true to H&M sizing. I'm wearing a size 4. Just wish it had pockets.

Marni at H&M gold brocade top

The brocade top (priced at $79.95) was slightly itchy, but I loved the print. I'm wearing a size 4. It runs true to H&M sizing. The ribbed trim makes it more casual.

One of the collection's more popular pieces, and my favorite piece, was the tailored blue dotted jacket (priced at $99). I'm wearing a size 4, which is slightly small on me due to its high armholes.  The flower tee (for $19.95) underneath is my favorite casual top from the line, and its stitched patchwork-esque details and ribbed trim are best appreciated in person.

And now for the fun part...due to delirium, I accidentally bought an extra white sequin collar (retail value $19.95), and I'm hosting a sweepstakes.

Ooh how exciting! You made out well! Sadly my H&M doesn't get the designer stuff...

I follow with bloglovin and I would wear the collar with one of my dresses and a blazer over it! XD

I love the dotted jacket you got, it is too cute! Great pick!

As for the contest, I follow you on Facebook (I'm "Breakfast at Saks"), and I would wear that adorable collar with everything! Specifically I think it would look cute over a little white Chanel-esque cardigan I thrifted a while back.

Thanks for the amazing giveaway! :)

Good for you for braving the Marni craze. I guess that's the one good thing about Fresno: I don't have to worry about a bunch of fashionistas trying to make their way to the designer collabs! I've read about some of the madness at H&M, and I think is the one time I'll say that I am glad there is no H&M here! LOL. I would have been too tempted to go and buy something. :)

I absolutely love that jacket! That was one piece that really stood out to me along with the brocade skirt. Although the skirt looked more like a mini in the look book and I was surprised to see that it came down kind of long on the person I saw wearing it. I really like that brocade top you tried on though. But that's me being obsessed with sparkly things. :)

Great review and I'd love to entered in your giveaway. I already follow you on all of those except Pinterest because I don't have an account. <3

I'd wear the collar with a vintage crew neck band tee! I always thought that would be an interesting look.

I liked you on facebook. I'm so sad I have no h&m close by. So kind of you to giveaway a piece. I'd definitely wear the collar to spice up a few of my basic tops/tees.

Loved your review! I enjoyed the pictures you posted yesterday on instagram. My favorite pieces would have to be the geo color-blocked bangles and the floral brocade top.

My look for the sequin collar would involve a clean silhouette, making the collar my focal piece. I would wear a short-sleeve fitted top underneath the collar, paired with a high-waisted pencil maxi. The shoe would probably be a demi-wedge or a retro inspired chunky heel. My color scheme would be black and white for the attire with accents of neons or corals for accessories.

I'm currently following you on Facebook and Lookbook.nu.

Hi, following from twitter and bloglovin!

I would love to take this collar on my post-graduation europe trip this summer! I have very little room to pack, so it would be lovely to use this piece to jazz up some of the plainer items i will be bringing (t-shirts, denim button up, etc.) in order to create more cute looks with less space!

Well obviously I can't read because when I left my comment, I never stated how I'd wear the collar!

I think I'd pair it with a crew neck style peach blouse I have and wear that with my black pleated skirt from Jason Wu for Target. :)
